about dead like me

Dead Like Me premiered in 2003 on Showtime and aired for two seasons. The plot of the show centered around a group of "undead" grim reapers who were chosen upon death to take souls. They are all still haunted by their former lives, lost loves, opportunities, and loved ones. Much of the show centers on the recent death of George Lass who goes from thinking life is unfair to accepting her role as a reaper.
(from my Dead Like Me fanlisting)

The main characters of Georgia "George" Lass (Ellen Muth), Rube Sofer (Mandy Patinkin), Roxy Harvey (Jasmine Guy), Mason (Callum Blue), Daisy Adair (Laura Harris), and briefly Betty Rhomer (Rebecca Gayheart) are grim reapers. They collect souls, but also maintain friendship and support for their efforts and endeavors.

George is new to the club and needs plenty of guidance. She receives guidance, advice, and some bad examples as she spends more time with each reaper. She manages to learn what she needs to do her job from each, and in some cases, what not to do.

At first, George is defiant, she doesn't want to take souls. She makes up her own rules, and the boss, Rube, must step in and explain and show her how this ends badly.

Throughout the progression of the show, we see George's growth as well as much change and growth in each character. It seems that each character goes through their own low points and they work through this in their own way.

Part of what makes this show so very good, is the characters contrasting personalities and their interractions with one another and their "reaps". Although their styles may differ, their goal is the same, to take care of the souls.
