about the band

The Counting Crows formed in Berkeley, California in 1991. The current band members are Adam Duritz (lead vocals, piano), David Bryson (guitar), Charlie Gillingham (accordion, keyboards), Dan Vickrey (lead guitar), David Immerglück (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Jim Bogios (drums) and Millard Powers (bass). (wikipedia).

Adam Duritz and David Bryson played in San Francisco together in the early 90s and chose the name Counting Crows for a nursery rhyme about counting magpies (a type of crow):

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told.

This rhyme appears in the song A Murder of One from their debut album August & Everything After (1993).

Counting Crows have had much commercial and critical success during their career, spanning over two decades. Their music continues to inspire, express emotion, and be relevant to people. What I love about their music is the pure beauty of the lyrics and the gorgeous melodies and beat in every song. I have been a fan since their first album and seeing their video for Mr. Jones. I still remember where I was and what feelings consumed me as I watched this new amazing band and heard their awesome sound.

I will gladly pick up any Counting Crows cd and listen all the way through, and still I learn something new every time. Thank you Crows, thank you!
